What is RUF?

Reformed University Fellowship (RUF) is a Christian ministry dedicated to helping college students grow in their faith in Jesus Christ, join community with other Christians, serve their campus and community, and proclaim the gospel Jesus risen and reigning to their world. We want to welcome the whole diversity of NMSU students to ask hard questions about faith and spirituality and to find caring and fun friends.

We are committed to:

Growth in Grace
Growing in a grace means a lifetime of increasing dependence on Jesus and communion with the Holy Spirit. That is why we are devoted to helping one another use the means of grace--things like Bible reading, singing, attending church, receiving the Sacraments, and more--to promote our growth in Christ-likeness.

Evangelism & Missions
We believe the gospel is true for every human, and, therefore, it cannot be kept to ourselves. We are committed to thoughtfully and respectfully proclaiming the gospel through our words, our deeds, and the community we create so that others can discover the true story of God's grace. We love to explore how Christ's person and work applies to each life and in equipping students for a future of faithful and effective evangelism.

Fellowship & Service
RUF is a FELLOWSHIP, a community of people learning to apply the gospel to every aspect of our lives. In our relationships with one another, we strive to reflect the counter-cultural values of the Kingdom of God. We lean into the messiness of relationships, celebrate the laughter, weep together, exhort each other, and encourage each other. As we do this, we provide the world around us with a glimpse of God's coming kingdom.

Biblical World & Life View
RUF wants to filter ALL of life through the gospel lens- all for God's glory! Whether you're a nurse or an engineer or a teacher or a parent or WHATEVER, we recognize that every job in life belongs to God and provides us with an opportunity to serve him. We aim, therefore, to discern our unique vocations within the world and to pursue them with excellence, distinctiveness, and integrity so that our university as well as our culture might experience the renewal of the gospel.

What we Believe

Why Reformed?

We are reformed.  This means that we believe 1) Jesus is enough to make us right with God and 2) the Bible is enough to show us who God is, who we are, and how we can be made new in him through Jesus.  Reformed theology says:
a) human sin is bigger than we think,
b) God is more holy and and more in control that we know, and
c) God's grace more beautiful than we can imagine.
More specifically, "reformed" means that we hold to an historic, Protestant understanding of Christianity. RUF is the Christian campus ministry of the Presbyterian Church in America, a conservative Presbyterian denomination.

Why University?

We are pro-university. RUF was born out of a desire to see the church minister to the world without abandoning the campus or becoming lost in it. College is an incredible time for self-discovery, growth, relationships, and fun! It  It is the dream of RUF to be a ministry “for our campus,” not for ourselves. RUF welcomes diverse students from a diverse campus to the one Christian gospel. We are also committed to walking with students through the "hard": depression, anxiety, identity questions, failure, and pain. We long to see all of NMSU transformed by the power and beauty of the presence of Christ.

Why Fellowship?

We are others-oriented. College can be shockingly lonely and individualistic. Statically, every college student will battle depression, loneliness, and anxiety. RUF provides true fellowship, spiritual answers, and lasting community. RUF works hard to connect students into the local church, where they can grow for a lifetime of faith and service. We desire charcoal-like faith, which gets hotter and more useful the longer it burns.
